The quickest way to get the Everest region is to fly from Kathmandu/Ramechhap to Lukla. Pre-booking should be done as the flights might fully booked at this time of the year. Due to the unpredictable and varying weather conditions, there is always the possibility of flight delays or cancellations.

You can also drive from Kathmandu to Jiri and then trek up to Lukla from there. The iconic trail from Jiri to Lukla, known as the ‘Pioneer’s Route,’ takes you from the lower countryside of the Solukhumbu region to the highlands of Lukla.

Useful Tips for Trekking to Everest Base Camp in April

  • April is the busiest month for trekkers and expedition teams heading to Everest, plan your trip accordingly to avoid crowd.
  • Always walk at your own pace and without rushing. Unneeded hurry may lead to Acute Mountain Sickness. Allow plenty of time for acclimatization.
  • Drink plenty of water at regular intervals to stay hydrated. Altitude sickness can be caused by dehydration. If you feel any discomfort while climbing steep slopes, consult your guide immediately and descend as soon as possible.
  • Carry cash (Nepalese Rupees) with you during the trek. Even in an emergency, having some extra cash on hand can come in handy.
  • Flights to and from Lukla are likely to be delayed or cancelled. Keep a couple of extra days in your itinerary if possible.
